September for me, besides being over far too quickly, was quite a one-sided affair when it comes to the books I read. Throughout the month I made my way through my Tortall reread-a-thon and I am almost done.
I managed to read 9 books, all by the brilliant Tamora Pierce and I just love that universe so much. I posted a review of Song of the Lioness, where I decided to write a combined review of all 4 books, but I don’t know if I’ll do the same with these ones or make individual reviews for each book.
I am also looking forward to the new editions of Protector of the Small (First Test, Page, Squire and Lady Knight) because the ones I have aren’t very pretty.
My favourite of the bunch is a tie between Emperor Mage and Trickster’s Choice, with Squire hot on their heels. I mean, they are all incredible and I highly recommend them all. But read them in chronological order, which is:
Song of the Lioness
Alanna, In the Hand of the Goddess, Woman Who Rides Like a Man, Lioness Rampant
The Immortals
Wild Magic, Wolf-Speaker, Emperor Mage, The Realms of the Gods
Protector of the Small
First Test, Page, Squire, Lady Knight
Trickster’s Duet
Trickster’s Choice, Trickster’s Queen
The Numair Chronicles
Tempests and Slaughter
Beka Cooper trilogy – set 200 years before Alanna
Terrier, Bloodhound, Mastiff
Are you a Tamora Pierce fan? Read any of her books?
What books did you read in September?
Do you have a favourite?
I adore Tamora Pierce! She was my absolute favorite author growing up, and is 100% of the reason why I love medieval-type fantasy and strong female characters! My favorite is definitely the Trickster Duology!

It’s always nice to meet a fellow Tortallan ☺️ I forgot how great Trickster’s Queen is and now I’ll be sad when I finish it.
