Review – The List

Title: The List

Author: Joanna Bolouri

Rating:
5stars

Phoebe Henderson may be single but she sure doesn’t feel fabulous.
It’s been a year since she found her boyfriend Alex in bed with another woman, and multiple cases of wine and extensive relationship analysis with best friend Lucy have done nothing to help.
Faced with a new year but no new love, Phoebe concocts a different kind of resolution.

The List:
Ten things she’s always wanted to do in bed but has never had the chance (or the courage!) to try.
A bucket list for between the sheets.
One year of pleasure, no strings attached.
Simple, right?

Factor in meddlesome colleagues, friends with benefits, getting frisky al fresco and maybe, possibly, true love and Phoebe’s got her work cut out for her.

This. This right here. This is right up my alley! I realise that as I’ve become older, I want to read more about these juicy stories rather than kinda-sorta innocent teenagers. I need my adult fix from time to time and The List provided me with just that – as well as a dose of hilarity and laughter and the romance I craved within the story.

I don’t know if it’s just me, but novels written by British authors about “ordinary people” just speaks to me more than others. I love these types of books. Maybe it’s because I just love the Brits more than other nationalities (except my own, mostly).

This was a quick read for me and that is just a sure sign that a book is great. When you just want to keep on reading and finding yourself up late because you are so close and just a little more and voila – you finished the book.

I even lent the book to my friend and she finished it within a day – and she’s not by any means a fast reader.

The whole sexual discovery premise of the book was fantastic. Phoebe gives herself one year to complete her sexual list and by doing so, she enters this whole new world she’d never let herself experience before.

The writing was really good. Bolouri manages to write unforced humour into scenes and I was snorting and cackling out loud numerous times.

I need more books like this!

Do I recommend this book?
100% YES YES YES… (very fitting)

To whom?
To the more adult reader as there are graphic descriptions and this book is pretty much all about sex. But if you’re up for it and in need of a funny and sexy book, look no further.
