I thought this was the perfect time for me to do a little blog post instead of the usual review/haul etc, but it still has to do with books, sort of.
November is tomorrow and that means National Novel Writing Month aka. NaNoWriMo. I’ve actually participated 3 times before and have failed miserably, and I mean miserably. In my best year, I managed to write 16.400 words.
Why do I fail so bad every time I try and commit to NaNoWriMo? 🤷♀️
I mean, I start out great, getting my word count in, no trouble there. But then, after maybe a week, I start to fall behind. And then some more, and more, until I am unable to catch up and the 50k finish line is an invisible line up in space somewhere.
And I’m not even sure if I’ll do any better this year.
But I damn well hope I do and I am going to try my best from the get go!
I have been chapter outlining my current project, The Water Howlers, so I at least know the general direction of my story. However, my stories tend to grow legs and run away from me, leaving me with chaos and a mess to fix. Crazy to say, but I cannot always trust my characters to do what I tell them to, or what I write them to do.
It’s like they actually have a mind of their own..
My current book is not a secret project by any means. In fact, I upload it chapter by chapter on the online writing platform, Wattpad, where I’ve been writing for the past 6 years.
The covers are made by a talented girl from Wattpad.
So if you wish to read what I’m working on, you can check out my work right here
As of right now, I have 4 completed novels in different genres and the one I’ll be working on is the sequel to my YA Fantasy book, The Air Howlers.
I’ll just sneak a little synopsis in down below for you.
In the Kingdom of Aethorin, gifted people, known as Howlers, help protect the land and its people. In every generation, four are chosen to become part of the King’s Special Defense Guard. These are known as the Four Howlers, representing their chosen element: earth, air, fire and water.
In a small village lives Kianna, a seventeen year old Air Howler. When Ki is marked as a Four Howler, she realises that her whole life will change, having to leave behind those she loves to embark on her new destiny in the royal capital of Aebor, to serve her king.
But being a part of the Four Howlers is not an easy task, something Ki will soon come to discover, as dark forces begin to stir, and after meeting the royal family and the secrets they so desperately try to keep hidden.
If that sounds like something of your interest, feel free to give it a read – I welcome feedback and critique with open arms. Please note that these books are first drafts and I already plan on changing lots of the content if I am ever to consider getting them published.
Fun fact, if you check out my NaNoWriMo page, you can see the old cover for The Air Howlers that I made myself a few years ago…. I’m definitely a lot happier with the new ones.
Alright, enough about me.
Are you participating in NaNoWriMo this year?
If you are and if you’re in need of a writing buddy, you can find me at NaNoWriMo here
If I can manage it, I’ll try and keep you updated on my writing process, maybe short weekly blogs?
